Dr. Travis Maak’s practice is focused on sports medicine and arthroscopic treatment of the hip, knee and shoulder. He is the Head Orthopaedic Team Physician for the Utah Jazz and Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Utah. Dr. Maak is originally from Salt Lake City and a graduate from Stanford University. He completed his medical school at Yale School of Medicine and surgical internship at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical College. His orthopaedic surgery residency training occurred at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, where he continued his training with a fellowship in sports medicine. During his fellowship, Dr. Maak served as an Assistant NFL Team Physician for the New York Football Giants.

Dr. Maak specializes in arthroscopic shoulder, hip and knee surgery and has a specific interest in arthroscopic treatment of athletic hip, knee and shoulder injuries. These injuries include hip and knee joint preservation surgery, cartilage restoration, shoulder instability, rotator cuff repair, and knee arthroscopy. He has specific expertise in hip joint preservation (including hip arthroscopy, labral repair and reconstruction) and complex knee joint restoration and reconstruction (including meniscus transplantation, cartilage resurfacing, osteotomy, and ligament reconstruction). He has been actively involved in research throughout his medical career and has published numerous scientific and clinical articles in the areas of hip, shoulder, and knee reconstruction. His research interests include hip joint preservation, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), meniscus and articular cartilage injury, and knee joint biomechanics.
